Top House Republican asks Psaki to “apologize” for “blatantly” diminishing Space Force as “punchline of a joke”

Rep. Mike Rogers, a Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, has called on White House press secretary Jen Psaki to “immediately apologize” over her response to a Space Force question.
“It’s concerning to see the Biden administration’s press secretary blatantly diminish an entire branch of our military as the punchline of a joke, which I’m sure China would find funny,” said Rogers.

In Tuesday’s briefing, Psaki was asked about the future of the Space Force under Biden administration.
The Space Force was formed in December 2019.Perhaps some of the sarcasm aimed at Space Force is because since its inception, the Trump administration never told the public what the military branch does. Details were vague and instead much attention was given to the branch’s name and logo, both of which former President Trump heralded. The public has mostly ridiculed the mysterious Space Force since then.
Space Force. It’s the plane of today,” she replied, likely comparing the question to an earlier one about the color scheme of Air Force One.So much of politics is theater, but Rep. Rogers certainly did not exaggerate. The dripping distain and sarcasm that accompanied the condescending and ignorant rhetoric can only be captured by watching the response, here linked.
Further, Psaki said that she doesn’t have any update on the Space Force, but will “check with our Space Force point of contact.
I’m not sure who that is."It's highly unsettling and unacceptable to American citizens, that the main spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the United States and all of its military branches does not even have a point of contact for one of the six branches. And then, in her attempt to cover her blunder, to place the burden and fault on the branch for not making themselves known to her.
President Biden hasn’t spoken about the Space Force or his plans for it. It seems likely that the military branch will continue but it is also possible that it could be scraped for budgetary reasons and that many of its goals could be met by the Air Force. There has not been much progress made public by the Space Force since its inception.
Many lawmakers see Space Force as part of the U.S.’s effort to overcome the threat of China’s growing presence.
Though the Democratic Party certainly positions itself as the forward-leaning, progressive party of the future, they seem to be turning a blind eye to the serious and very real threat of China investing so heavily in development of space-age warfare technology. Regrettably, the only laughter and ridicule from the future will be directed at those poking fun of servicemen and women in our latest military branch.
"While the Biden Administration continues to think about whether or not the [Chinese Communist Party] is a threat, China is working overtime to become the dominant force in space," said Rep. Mike Waltz, who is one of the founding members of the House Space Force Caucus.

Later, Psaki in a tweet invited the members of the Space Force “to come visit us in the briefing room anytime to share an update on their important work."
