House Republican Collins files resolution to oust Pelosi as speaker, questions her mental fitness

Ø  On Monday, Rep. Doug Collins came up with a resolution to remove House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Ø  “Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s unwillingness to abide by the Constitution, combined with her recent actions, call into question her own mental fitness, which is why it’s critical that the House of Representatives demand her removal from the line of succession,” Collins said in a statement to Fox News.

Ø  Further, the resolution alleges that Pelosi used the majority of her time as House Speaker in “pursuing baseless and fruitless investigations” against Trump and his administration, such as the impeachment inquiry.

Ø  The resolution claims that over the years, Pelosi has started to show signs of “decline in mental fitness” such as “Pelosi “appeared confused and exhibited bizarre behavior” by “blurting out randomly ‘Good Morning, Sunday morning’” during an interview on ABC News.

Ø  This resolution from Collins comes a week after Pelosi announced legislation to form a commission that gives authority to Congress to remove a President using the 25th Amendment. Pelosi, at the time, also accused Trump of being in “in an altered state” due to his coronavirus treatment.

Another Trump Soldier

I am sure this news will provide the Trump apparatchiks a fruitful news cycle. Throw in a few stills of Speaker Pelosi in a perfect "crazy look," and Fox advertisers will reap the benefit.

The rest of us lose.

This resolution is a response to Speaker Pelosi introducing a measure that would create a bipartisan group "tasked" with evaluating the president's mental and physical health. Note: they are not going to be evaluating Trump. The entire gambit is more of a political stunt, aimed at focusing the American public on Trump's erratic behavior.

It's an unworthy endeavor. We have more than enough evidence of Trump's inability to discharge the duties of the office of the President. The announcement riled up the Trumplicans, though, who were of course led in their outcry by their Tweeter-In-Chief.

Doug Collins, a four-term congressman from Georgia, is running this November in a special Senate election. His resolution will surely play well in the media, which could help his chances (right now, he appears to be in a three-way contest, likely headed for a runoff).

Representative Collins has worked against human rights for the LGBTQ+ community and actively opposes a woman's right to choose. On the other hand, he has also sponsored the "First Step Act," a worthy piece of criminal justice reform.

But his main claim to fame for the next few news cycles will be as a Defender of Trump. His decision to wade into these purely performative, sewage-strewn political waters marks him as yet another apologist for the worst leader our country has ever endured.

I am not a fan of Speaker Pelosi's grandstanding either, and will not even pretend to defend it. But Collins, as with so many other Trumplicans in private and public life, will soon have to reckon with their loyalty to a man who is attempting to upend democracy in America. A few years from now, as history catches up to this aberration of a presidency, he may find the short jolt of attention was not worth it.

Why not throw in a few of those stills, it's not like the Left doesn't do exactly that when it comes to Trump. And frankly, we'd be doing the progressive left a favor, they've wanted Pelosi gone for years. She's a boat anchor to them.

Her existence, clearly on borrowed time, was negotiated with her far left colleagues and she was to have stepped down after two years. The Mueller investigation and subsequent impeachment trial changed all that - they needed her experience even if it meant sputtering random nonsense on the news, showing her 5 flavors of gourmet Gelato and taking clandestine trips to the salon, probably stepping over human feces, urine and needles to do so. Ah, to be at home in one's district.

But let's call a spade a spade, the far left constantly decries "old white men" in Congress. So, here's an opportunity for them to prove they're not gender biased just race biased. We Republicans would be happy to help the Left along. Sure, it would be mean less old school drama (standing up and clapping with both arms outstretched and dramatically tearing a pre torn copy of Trump's speech), and more of the new kind, e.g. dressing in all white, not showing up, supporting burning and looting, ya know, the far lefty Left stuff.

You know it's time to pack it in when even CNN calls you on your BS, as Wolf Blitzer did yesterday in a one on one interview with Nancy. She loudly accused him and his CNN colleagues for being apologists for Republicans, LOL! Now, if that's not a sign of cray cray come on Michael, we don't know what the hell is. That even made Biden look like he could remember Pi out to 10 digits or so.

We Can Play Her Games Too

On January 29th, 2020, the White House Coronavirus Task Force was created to combat the virus that was beginning to make its’ way from China into the United States. That same day, Nancy Pelosi and the House of Representatives began debate on the topic of President Trump’s sham impeachment.

On January 31st, while Trump was banning travel from China, the Senate was forced to vote on whether or not to remove President Trump from office on the charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. And less than a month later, Nancy Pelosi stood in the middle of a crowded Chinatown—maskless—and told people to “come to Chinatown…come join us.”

Nancy Pelosi has continually attacked the President for being “mentally unfit for office,” despite supporting Joe Biden—who many believe is in the early stages of dementia—for president and having several mental flubs herself. Last month, Pelosi was doing an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC when she was asked about the upcoming hearings for Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s replacement on the Supreme Court. Pelosi responded with: “Good morning. Sunday morning.”

All that being said, do I really believe Rep. Doug Collins is going to succeed in removing Pelosi as Speaker of the House? Most likely not. This is a reactionary move to Pelosi’s politically charged announcement that she will be attempting to form a committee tasked with figuring out if the president needs to be removed from office, per the 25th amendment.

In a vacuum, a bipartisan committee tasked with affirming that the president is fit to run the country might be a good idea. But Pelosi is working from a place of spite for Donald Trump and she will do almost anything to see him removed from the White House.

COVID-19 is not going away. Riots continue to plague our cities. The economy, while on the rise, has not hit its stride. There is work to be done. But if Pelosi wants to play these ridiculous partisan games, we can play her games too.

I get it. Not many outside of her own party like Nancy Pelosi. But that's because she stands firm on issues that she is passionate about. Sure, she's had her set of gaffes, but mentally unfit? Hardly. She was instrumental in a good number of reforms, including the ACA which the GOP still has no good alternative for.

Sure, it's a partisan game, but Collins is wasting time here. Pelosi is right to challenge the President's mental state given the amount of inconsistencies in his publics addresses and his incessant Twitter rages. I have several doctor friends who have said that Biden certainly does NOT have dementia, and neither does Pelosi. The GOP is just looking for ways to distract from the train wreck that is Trumpism, and the Right's love affair with it. Collins' latest stunt is exactly that.

You are right, there is work to be done in tackling 'Rona, abysmal race relations, and getting the economy back on track. And while I am not entirely on board with Pelosi's scheme to push the 25th to get Trump out of his capacity early, it's easy to see why she is doing it; we have an ineffective leader that has stoked divisions at a very challenging time in our nation, and having a narcissist-in-chief at the helm who doesn't want to take responsibility for anything is courting disaster...and it is best to stave it off early rather than wait for something drastic to happen.

Collins needs to actually accomplish something while in office.
